The Juliusz Osterwa Theatre in Lublin is one of the oldest theatre institutions in Poland. Built between 1884 and 1886 to a design by Karol Kozłowski, it is one of the most beautiful and modern theatres of 19th-century Europe. Over the years, it has changed its name, from the ‘New Theatre’ to the ‘Winter Theatre’, until it finally became an important cultural centre in the region. Throughout its history, the theatre has experienced various periods, from difficult financial times to its heyday, when famous names such as Helena Modrzejewska and Stanisław Wyspiański appeared on stage. The Juliusz Osterwa Theatre is a place that constantly strives to develop, offering a rich repertoire that combines the classics with modern theatrical trends.
