The Old Theatre in Lublin is the first permanent theatre in the city and one of the oldest in Poland. It was built in 1822 to a design by Łukasz Rodakiewicz, the then owner of the theatre. The building was characterised by modest classical details such as arcades, masks and griffins. It had 334 seats in the auditorium. The Old Theatre functioned until 1887, when the modern Municipal Theatre on Narutowicza Street began its operation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was converted into a cinema, which operated until the 1980s. After this time, the building gradually fell into disrepair. Following an extensive renovation completed in 2012, the Old Theatre regained its former glory, becoming a cultural space that engages both locals and tourists by offering a variety of artistic and educational events.
