Provisorium Theatre is one of Poland's most significant alternative theatres, rooted in the student culture movement. Active since 1972, it is among the few groups from that era that continue to thrive today. Currently led by Janusz Opryński and Jacek Brzeziński, the theatre draws inspiration from outstanding works of Polish and world literature. Its most renowned productions include Ferdydurke, Trans-Atlantyk, Do piachu, and Homo Polonicus. Provisorium has received numerous awards at international festivals, including in Edinburgh. Operating on a project-based model without a fixed repertoire or permanent ensemble, the theatre assembles new casts for each production. Continuously exploring new forms of expression, Provisorium remains one of the most compelling voices in Poland's alternative theatre scene.
