Provisorium Theatre is one of Poland's most significant alternative theatres, rooted in the student culture movement. Active since 1972, it is among the few groups from that era that continue to thrive today. The Old Theatre in Lublin is the first permanent theatre in the city and one of the oldest in Poland. It was built in 1822 to a design by Łukasz Rodakiewicz, the then owner of the theatre. The building was characterised by modest classical details such as arcades, masks and griffins. It had 334 seats in the auditorium.
