Lublin has been named the European Capital of Culture for 2029! This unique award signifies a host of interesting initiatives, projects, and cultural events, as well as extraordinary promotion of the city on the international stage.

The idea of the European Capital of Culture emerged 40 years ago in Greece and aimed to strengthen the integration of the European Union while showcasing the cultural potential of its member countries. Each European Capital of Culture prepares an annual program of celebrations that presents the cultural richness of the city, region, and country, as well as its European contexts. To date, more than 60 European cities have been awarded the title, including two from Poland: Kraków in 2000 and Wrocław in 2016.

The capital of the Lubelskie Voivodeship is one of the most attractive cities in Poland, recognized as a Polish Tourist Brand. The historic architectural and urban complex of Lublin, one of the oldest Polish cities, has been awarded the title of Monument of History. The city's multicultural history, spanning over 700 years, is reflected in its numerous monuments. Among the most valuable is the Holy Trinity Chapel on Castle Hill, whose walls are adorned with 15th-century Ruthenian-Byzantine paintings. This remarkable place, like the walls of the Dominican Basilica, bears witness to the events of the Polish-Lithuanian Union in 1569. These sites have also been awarded the European Heritage Mark. The well-preserved Old Town, with its predominantly Renaissance buildings featuring traces of Gothic, Baroque, and Classicism, can enchant many tourists.

The festivals held periodically emphasize an atmosphere of openness, respect for culture, and the need to share a modern approach to tradition. Events such as the Night of Culture, Different Sounds - Art'n'Music Festival, Open City, Carnaval Sztukmistrzów, Re:Tradition, European Festival of Taste, and the Codes Festival of Tradition and Musical Avant-Garde transform the city into a vibrant space of artistic activity. Both residents and tourists appreciate the offerings of numerous museums, contemporary art galleries, theaters, philharmonics, and institutions like the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, which showcase the achievements of world-renowned artists. Lublin is also an excellent base for trips to such places as Kozłówka, Kazimierz Dolny, Nałęczów, Zamość, the Roztocze region, the Łęczna-Włodawa Lake District, and many other interesting corners of the Lublin Voivodeship.
