We're not sleeping, we're sightseeing! This saying takes on literal meaning. Check what attractions await you in Lublin during this year's Night of Museums (Saturday, 18 May 2019).
The Lublin Museum invites to visit the Holy Trinity Chapel with its unique russo-byzantine frescos at every full hour between 6 and 11.30 PM. There's also a possibility to see the night view on Lublin from the top of the Castle Tower (from 6 PM till midnight). It's going to be picturesque and romantic.
The branches of the Lublin Museum will also open their doors for the visitors. In the Museum of the History of Lublin at 6 PM there will be an artistic workshop for children "Leaning Tower of Lublin? We learn the secrets of the Cracow Gate", during which the kids will learn who, when, and why built the Cracow Gate, what is it's current heigth and the thickness of the walls, and is it really leaning away? (Reservation required). For adults there will be a lecture with a multimedia presentation at 7.30 PM "The discovery of fake coins from the times of king Zygmunt III Waza (1587-1632)”, during which we will think what the discovery of the fake coins can mean and what's the probability of them coming from an illegal mint functioning in the city.
In the Museum of Martyrdom "Pod Zegarem" we can take part in the curator tour of the temporary exhibition "Maria Zofia Hiszpańska-Neumann”, presenting the documents from the time the artist spent in the camp, such as letters and memories. An addition to the exhibition will be the photos from the Stations of the Cross procession from the chapel located in the boarding school of the Catholic University of Lublin.
In the Wincenty Pol Manor House await "Tales retrieved from the time and space". We will learn the stories of the antique objects, and the fossils from the ancient seas. There will also be a possibility to see the night sky through the telescope.
Józef Czechowicz Literary Museum offers a possibility of a curator tour at the temporary exhibition to see the mementos connected to Józef Łobodowski. There will also be reading of the "Lublin Ballad" fragments.
The Botanical Garden has prepared a walk during which we will learn about myths and beliefs connected to the plant realm. The meeting will end with a bonfire by the Heather Hut. Prior reservation required.
The Open-Air Village Museum in Lublin has prepared a two-day program for visitors. On Friday, May 17, we will take part in Nighttime Stories - an evening walk around the museum, combined with solving an intriguing riddle (registration for the event is required). On Saturday, 18 May, it will be possible to visit the historic interiors and corners of the Museum in the evening (6-8 PM).
Do you want to get to know the "backstage of the Museum"? You have such opportunity in the Museum of the Catholic University of Lublin, which invites you to a curator tour of the exhibition (6:30 PM, 8:30 PM, 10:30 PM). The common denominator of the displayed exhibits is a museum storeroom, i.e. a place where different objects of various artistic class and categories are being stored.
Labirynth Gallery invites to the opening of an interactive exhibition of contemporary art for children "A ventriloquist and silent paintings". The vernissage will be translated into PSL and English. Children, through independent interpretation of the works, will become the title ventriloquists. We will see how much the seemingly silent works of art have to say. Exhibitions can also be experienced by excluding sight and engaging the senses of hearing and touch.
At 8 PM a lecture "Rabbit Ducks in the Battle Against Fascism. On the usefulness of art in hard times.", also translated into PSL, will take place. We will learn about new forms in art and beyond in response to today's economic, ecological and social crisis. Until midnight, we will also be able to see see the exhibitions: Ruins of my dreams and Empty room of night (Grodzka 3 street).
In the State Museum at Majdanek a book fair will be taking place throughout the whole day. The Museum also invites to a meetings: "Who were the people in striped uniforms? The KL prisoners in the light of private documents", "Majdanek history in the 'Bread of Liberty" comic book", "Stopped time. Preservation of the historical items in posession of the State Museum at Majdanek". Prior reservation is required to the aforementioned lectures.
On the Night of Museums also the facilities outside Lublin will be open. The Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka offers sightseeing with the ladies and gentlemen in period costumes, accompanied by the music of the player piano, violin, and the record player. In Nałęczów we will be hosted by the Stefan Żeromski Museum (where we will read Żeromski's "All and Nothing") and Bolesław Prus Museum and their open-air Cinema with short films and reportages related to the Museum.
