From the early middle ages the trade with various goods developed in Lublin thanks to a trade rout that lead through the city. Famous Lublin fairs were visited not only by the polish trade men, but also by merchants from different parts of the world.
Basing on this tradition, the twelfth edition of the Jagiellonian Fair will take place this weekend (17-19 of August). The event presents traditional culture in multiple dimensions - from folk art, through music, dance, singing, to cuisine and education.
Strolling through the streets of the Old Town you will see a lot of patterns, colours, and styles presented by the folk artists from Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Hungary. You will hear stories, learn about the secrets of the products, and have an opportunity to acquire them.
The main theme of this edition are laces - thanks th their artistry and beauty they have become extremely popular, both in folk art as well as in European sacral and secular art. During the Handicrafts Fair you will see a lot of techniques and pattern examples, and while visiting themed exhibitions you will see the works of the lace-makers from Koniaków, among others.
