Józef Czechowicz (1903-1939) was not only a great poet and prose writer, eulogist of Lublin, teacher, editor of children’s magazines ("Płomyczek" and "Płomyk") and a co-founder of the newspaper Kurier Lubelski, but also a soldier who participated in the Polish-Bolshevik war.

At the square of his name, just opposite of the Litewski Square, stands the granite monument by Tadeusz Skwarczyński, erected on the 30th anniversary of the poet's death - Czechowicz was killed here on 9th of September, 1939, during the bombing of the city. A museum devoted to him is located at Złota street (see stop nr 6).
